Cuyler Joseph McCartney

OCTOBER 25, 1992 – JULY 23, 2023

Cuyler Joseph McCartney, age 30, of Springfield and formerly of Darke County went home to be with the Lord at 5:04 am Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Springfield Regional Medical Center and was finally reunited with his son Colton who proceeded him in death in July of 2018.

Cuyler was born October 25, 1992, in Bowling Green, Ohio, to Lee & Deanna (Moritz) McCartney of New Carlisle. Cuyler is also survived by his wife, Alexis (Hager) McCartney whom he married June 12, 2016; children, Brayden McCartney and Kayleigh McCartney; sister, Hannah McCartney of New Carlisle; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Grainger & Phylia Smith of Indian Trail, North Carolina; mother-in-law, Jennifer Smith of Shelby, North Carolina; grandparents, Dennis & Iris Moritz of Arcanum; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Jocqueline & Wes Propst, Madolyn & Dennis Aderholt of Indian Trail, North Carolina and Jada Smith of Shelby, North Carolina; aunt & uncle, Denise & Jim Grote of Pitsburg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cuyler was a forklift operator with FedEx Freight. He was a dedicated hard worker that would go out of his way to make life better for everyone. He was an amazing, devoted, and loving father who loved to spend time with his children and showing them everything the world has to offer. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, son and brother who was there no matter the circumstance. As a member of Living Word Church in Vandalia, he was a devoted Christian and cherished his faith and relationship with the Lord. Cuyler was an intelligent person who loved studying history and was a talented artist. He was known to many as the “ultimate grill master” and made sure everyone around him felt safe and cherished. Cuyler’s interests included; The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, the Harry Potter series, THE Ohio State Buckeyes, professional rugby, and spending time with the people he loved. Cuyler was a people person who never met a stranger, was quick witted and could make anyone laugh even on their darkest day. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all.

A celebration of Cuyler’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Living Word Church 926 E. National Rd. Vandalia, OH 45377 with Pastor Pat Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Mote Cemetery Arcanum, Ohio. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the church.
