Troy Africa-Shuman

Troy Africa-Shuman, 36, of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away on July 15, 2023.

He was born on July 3, 1987, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Edgar Africa of Waipahu, Hawaii, and Pamela Shuman of Dayton, Ohio.

Troy was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Edna Shuman; and his aunt, Melissa Shuman.

In addition to his parents, Troy is survived by his siblings, Shawnda Stamps of Dayton, Joseph York of Greenville, Chaelyn (Shawn) McKeown, Zarad Africa, Thorne Africa, and Stone Africa; his nieces and nephews, Cameron, Deja, Zaya, Shawn Cillian, Shawn Charming, Irina, Shawn Cherish, and Wavelana.

Troy served in the United States Army Reserves as a Military Policeman, obtaining the rank of SGT. During his tenure, he supported the global war on terrorism in the continental United States, as well as Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait. Troy’s bravery and service awarded him numerous decorations, medals, badges, and campaign ribbons. Following his deployment in the Middle East, Troy went on to work at the United States Department of State, in Washington DC, as an Armed Security Officer. He was well respected by members of his Unit.
 
Troy had a unique “I can do anything” mindset. He was incredibly skilled at taking on any project that interested him. From car repair and restoration, to his love of working outdoors and perfection of landscape artistry. 

There was very little Troy did not undertake for himself and in support of his family and friends. Most of all, Troy had a kind heart, infectious smile, quick wit, was engaging, and charming. He will be missed by all.

A celebration of Troy’s life will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville campus, with Pastor Tony Price officiating.

His family will be receiving guests from 5:00 PM until the time of the service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
