Ansonia-Tri-Village in big battle Friday

Too close to call

By George Starks |

ANSONIA- In the world of professional wrestling, this one would be called a real ‘slobber knocker’.

When Ansonia and Tri-Village meet in Ansonia Friday,  it could be a battle for the ages in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference (WOAC).

It will be a packed house and the only advantage will go to the Tigers because of the home field advantage.

That’s it and it really shouldn’t phase the Patriots.

These are two teams that are about as even as they come if we compare them by the numbers.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Tigers have scored 160 points in four games. This averages out to 40 points a game for Ansonia.

On the Patriots side of the ball, 140 points have been tallied averaging out to 35 points a game.

This is a toss up as both teams can put up the points.

Both team have pitched a shutout apiece.

Ansonia blasted Covington 56-0 in week two while Tri-Village leveled Mississinawa Valley a week ago, 50-0.

Offensively,  this is anyone’s guess.

On defense, it’s very close.

Ansonia has allowed only 28 points in four games. That computes to a mere 7 points a game.

Tri-Village is nearly as good allowing 34 points so far or 8.2 points a game.

Again, no clear advantage for either side.

One thing is for certain,  the winner of this battle will likely go on to be WOAC Champions.

In the first high school poll for 2023,  Ansonia was fifth in D-V I I while Maria Stein Marion Local topped the leader board in that division.

Tri-Village came in eighth in D-VI with Versailles leading the way.

One other local score that was not reported saw Bradford going to 3-1on the season as the Railroaders blasted Bridgeport 48-14 Saturday.
