Truck struck buggy – horse killed, buggy driver in hospital

On October 25, 2023 at approximately 8:54 a.m. Darke County Deputies along with Gettysburg Fire Department, and Gettysburg Rescue, were dispatched to the 9000 block of U.S. Route 36 East in reference to an accident with injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Dodge straight truck driven by Joshua Morrison (37) of Lynn, Indiana was eastbound on U.S. 36 when he failed to maintain assured clear distance with a horse and buggy driven by, Beth Burns (18) of Bradford, who was also traveling east on U.S. 36. Morrison struck the horse and buggy in the rear causing the horse and buggy to roll into the ditch ejecting Ms. Burns.

Ms. Burns was transported by Gettysburg Rescue to Upper Valley for her injuries. The seriousness of her injuries was unknown at the time of the press release. Mr. Morrison was treated and released from the scene. A citation was issued to Morrison for failure to maintain assured clear distance. Ms. Burns horse died from injuries resulting from the accident.
