Klyda “Jean” Sander

December 28, 1923 – June 12, 2021

K. Jean (Alberts) Sander peacefully met her Lord and Savior on June 12, 2021, at the age of 97.  Born to Arnold H & Louise (Buchs) Alberts in Rochester, Minnesota, Olmstead County, she later in her prime met a handsome serviceman and relocated to Darke Co in Ohio where she spent all her married life, most recently as a resident of the Brethren Retirement Community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 69 years, Richard F Sander (d 2013), son in law Bill Hoop, granddaughter Kim (Hoop)Fugett, brothers Arlen (Winnie) and Everett Alberts, sister Fern (Don) Schultz, and brother- in law George “Stormy” Collins.

She is survived by her 3 children, Richard D(Carol) Sander, Carol Hoop, and James (Shelley) Sander, 4 grandchildren, Stephanie (David), Doug (Cyndi), Jon, and Nick, 8 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, brother Daryl (Marilyn) Alberts, sisters Rita (Glenn) Marks, Janet Collins, and Nila (Ellis) Toftdahl, sisters in law Thelma Marker and Vi Alberts, brother- in law Duane Sander, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She lived a life of service to her family and others, showing kindness to everyone she met and teaching her children to do the same. She married her husband Richard during WWII and upon him going overseas returned home to her folks honing her housekeeping skills. When he returned from War and had finished his military service, she came to OH, became actively involved at St John Lutheran Church where she was a longtime member, and met new friends, which became her lifetime friends. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, was an active Women’s Society member, attended YAFO as a young married adult, served funeral dinners, and many other activities. She and Richard bought their farm in 1964, and she worked hard at farm life, including gardening, meals for workers, milking, chickens, hogs, hauling grain, and all sorts of things a farmer’s wife took on. For 17 yrs., she worked at FRAM Corp. Other interests included reading tutor at Gettysburg Elem School, and 15 yrs. Wayne Hosp volunteer. She and Richard loved to square dance, attend Army Battalion reunions, Farm Bureau activities, and camping with family and church friends.  Jean spent her last few years rising early, fixing her hair, applying lipstick, adding jewelry and proudly getting on with her day.

Not everyone is given the chance to grow old. She appreciated and thanked God for every single day of life. When our time on Earth is done, money or material things will not matter. It’s the love, time, and kindness we’ve given others that will shine and live on forever. This matriarch and mother will be greatly missed.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday June 18, 2021 at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Jess Abbott officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. John Church Cemetery in Greenville.  The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 PM until time of the services in the funeral home.
