John L. Brown

June 12, 1943 — August 30, 2024

John L. Brown, age 81 of Greenville, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. 

He was born on June 12, 1943 in Winchester, IN to the late Vern and Delores Brown. 

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by two sisters, Violet Nagel and Marcia Tipple. 

John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Diana Brown; children, Aaron (Susan) Brown, Leslie (Jay) Burkardt, Amy (Andrew) Shaffer; and grandchildren, JT Brown, Caitlin Brown, Norah Burkardt, Landon Johnson, Owen Johnson, Jenna Shaffer, Keaton Shaffer. 

He graduated from Union City High School in Union City, IN and went on to Miami Jacobs College, where he graduated with his Associates Degree in Accounting. After graduation John joined the National Guard, where he served proudly for 6 years. He then worked for Union City Body Company for 30 years in human resources and at Brookdale for 14 years as a healthcare aide. Most recently John and his wife attended church at EUM Church in Greenville. John was an avid sports fan, especially the Cincinnati Reds, North Carolina Tar Heels, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was an ultimate family man and found some of his greatest joy spending time with his grandchildren. John will be remembered and missed deeply by his family, he was known for his sayings of “have a good day and have a good week” and “watch your p’s and q’s.” John was very kind and tender hearted, he had a caring soul towards every person and animal he met. 

A Celebration of John’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville. 

John’s family will receive guests following the service on Sunday, September 8, 2024 until 4:00 PM.
