ANSONIA-It didn’t take Ansonia long to establish dominance over Twin Valley South Friday as the Tigers rolled to a 48-6 victory in the opening round of the OHSAA football tournament.
“It feels odd to play the same team twice in the same season,” said Tigers head coach Adam George. “I’m very happy with the way my kids played tonight. I don’t think we could’ve played much better.”
Ansonia found paydirt in the opening frame on a four yard run be Zane Henderson. On its next drive, sophomore Landen Shives romped for a.43 yard score.
“The offense came out and made a statement immediately,” said George. “We didn’t give up the big play tonight. When you play a team for the second time, there’s a familiarity there. We had a lot of guys flying to the ball and not a lot of single tackles.”
On offense, the Tigers had no problem moving the ball against the Panthers defense, basically at will.
“We had a lot of guys carrying the ball tonight,” George pointed out, “These kids played a great game tonight. I have no real complaints.”
If there was anything George was unhappy with it was penalties on the offense.
“We had too many false starts,” said George. “We need to clean that up.”
With the victory, the Tigers will host a second round game next Friday against Lehman Catholic.
In other playoff action, Tri-Village won big at Waynesfield Goshen 43-7 and will go to Marion Local and a date with the Flyers. Versailles was a winner over Indian Lake. Arcanum fell to West Liberty Salem, 41-26.
