July 28, 1938 – December 2, 2024
Beverly Ann (Roberson) Cortner, 86, formerly of Winchester, Indiana, passed away Monday December 2, 2024 at Byron Wellness Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Beverly was the daughter of the late Gilbert “Gib” and Mary Juanita (Bankson) Roberson, born July 28, 1938 in Union City, Indiana.
After graduating from West Side High School in 1956, Beverly began a long career of public service as a fingerprint technician at FBI headquarters in Washington, DC. Returning to Indiana with her growing family, she served various positions with the City of Winchester – at the Water Filtration Plant, Animal Control, but notably as Dispatcher for the Winchester Police Department. Beverly led Girl Scouts, participated in Women of the Moose, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Beverly kept busy sewing, embroidering, hunting bargains at garage sales, collecting quarters, watching westerns and game shows, solving puzzles, and enjoying nature. Her favorite pastime was crocheting afghans for every newborn, graduate, newlywed… or anyone who wanted one. For years, she was passionate about making and donating red, white, and blue afghans to honor veterans, whether she knew them personally or not.
Beverly is survived by her children and their spouses: Debbie and Pat Seidl of Anchorage, Alaska; David and Vickie Cortner of Eaton, Ohio; Delbert Jr “Dee” and Karen Cortner of New Paris, Ohio; and Dawn and Steve McCord of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Beverly is also survived by her sister Carolyn “June” Besecker (husband Nolan), and brother Robert “Bobby” Roberson, both of Union City. Beverly leaves behind eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1PM, Saturday January 25 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Burial will be in Old Teegarden Cemetery.
