Roy R Harrison Sr.

The Legendary Roy R. Harrison Sr., 78 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Monday February 10, 2025, at 12:01 AM at Wayne Healthcare. Roy was born May 22, 1946, in Darke County, Ohio, the son of the late Junior C. and Emiline (Teegarden) Harrison.

Roy retired from the Greenville Police Department on March 13, 1998. During his career with the department he was an arson investigator, fire arms instructor, crime scene investigator, he worked with the FBI on cases, he served as a body guard for Dan Quayle during his visit to Darke County, he rode the 3 wheel police motorcycle, was McGruff the Crime Dog his biggest goal was to solve the double homicide which he stayed on an extra year working on the case. After his retirement he worked for 17 years as maintenance and manager of Hunters Oak Apartments.

Roy was a 1964 graduate of Versailles High School; he was very knowledgeable and handy, he enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, bowling, fishing; he was active in pistol shoots and won many prizes in them; he enjoyed time with his family especially Christmas where he would dress as Santa and decorated the house, he loved attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Roy, and Florence Teegarden; his friends, Eric Hughes, Robert Reichard, Lyle “Mac” McGuiness, Deo Godown, Harvey Wilt, Tom Kaugher, Ralph Tucker, John Neff.

Roy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sharon (Lowman) Harrison of Greenville whom he married August 25, 1971; his children and spouses, Jeanna and Arnold Monnin of Greenville, Rocky and Kelly Harrison of Greenville, Roberta Szeligo, and Rita Harrison; his grandchildren, Seth A. and Kim Monnin, Stephanie and Steven Duke, Shane and Michelle Monnin, Spencer and Nicki Monnin, and Kaden Harrison; his great grandchildren, Max Landis, Tate Monnin, Grace and Leo Duke, Hutcher and Rush Monnin, Jackson and Korbin Monnin; his brothers and sister in law, Charles and Elaine Harrison of New Madison, Kenneth Harrison of Texas, Paul Harrison of Chattanooga, Tennessee; his sister, Goldie Patches of Ansonia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Tuesday February 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Nick Good officiating. Burial will follow in Gettysburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday February 17, 2025, and 1 hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the L.E.A.D. Prevention Program through Recovery and Wellness to support students to be drug, alcohol and tobacco free.
