Phillip Lynn Stickel age 83, of Springboro, Ohio and formerly of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 4:07 A.M. Wednesday August 11, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. He was born March 6, 1938 in Greenville to the late Arthur “Oss” Stickel and Audrey (Brooks) Stickel.
He married Patricia Ann (Rank) Stickel on May 24, 1968 in Bradford, Ohio and she survives. Other survivors include one son, Brent Phillip (Heather) Stickel; one daughter, Lynn Ann (Joseph) Pugnale, four grandchildren, Alyssa Lynn Pugnale, Audrey Ann Pugnale, Andrew Joseph Pugnale and Emma Lynn Stickel, all of Springboro; his sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Sam Hildebrand of Crawfordsville, Indiana, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Brooks Stickel and sisters-in-law Cora Ann Stickel and Joan “Vicki” Stickel and a nephew and niece.
Mr. Stickel was a 1957 graduate of Greenville High School and served in the United States Air Force in France (1961-1962) during the Berlin Wall Crisis. He retired from the Sprint Corporation, Mansfield, Ohio after 35 years of service. He was a Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) and Contracts Negotiator.
He was a member of the Southside Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mansfield where he served as Deacon and church trustee and was honored as “Good and Faithful Servant” for the year 1995. He was also a member of the American Legion, Erk Cottrell Post No. 140 of Greenville. Phillip, a Freemason, was a member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge No. 143 where he was honored by the members of the Lodge by being elected to serve as Worshipful Master in 2006; member of the Greenville Masonic Craft Club; Past President of the Third Masonic District Officers Association; and further honored by the Grand Masonic Lodge of Ohio by being appointed to serve as District Education Officer followed by District Deputy Grand Master for the Third Masonic District comprising of Lodges located in Darke, Miami and Shelby Counties. He was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason and had recently been elected to receive the Valley’s distinguished Meritorious Service Award for his participation in several degree conferrals and co-chairman of the Scottish Rite Ring Committee. He was also a member of the Darke County Shrine Club.
He very much enjoyed his family and especially his four grandchildren who he loved and adored, woodworking, auto racing and college football (GO BUCKS). He and Pat enjoyed traveling and visited nearly all 50 states with cruises around the Hawaii Islands and to Alaska; Canada, Mexico, and Jamaica. While stationed in France, he visited seven European countries. Two favorite family trips were to the 1997 Rose Bowl and 1999 Sugar Bowl.
Graveside Services including full military honors by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard, the Masonic Memorial Service and the Scottish Rite Ring Service by the Greenville Masonic Lodge will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday August 28, 2021 in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio.
