Mary E. Harris Hurd, 93 years old, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at The Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio.
Mary was born on August 29, 1932, in Franklin County, Columbus, Ohio. Mary was the daughter of Omer Harris and Avanell Day Harris Cooper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Hurd Sr. and his daughter, Stephanie Peterson.
Mary is survived by her sister, Soundra (Charlie) Weaver and her brother, Reverend Rodney (Tatiana) Cooper.
Mary and Dean were married on October 22, 1960. Children of Dean and Mary are Dean Allen Hurd of Greenville, Ohio and Denise (Jeff) Bolton of Texas; her grandchildren, Katheryn E. Hurd, Dean Alexander Hurd, Evan (Madelyn) Bolton, Rachel (Kellen) Wilson; her great grandsons, Jack Wilson and Lee Wilson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Business Education in 1959.
Mary retired from teaching after 32 years. She began her career at Middletown High School and Covington High School, and 25 years at Greenville High School. She worked with the Greenville High School Band and the Wavettes for 17 of the 25 years.
She was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church in Greenville, and she loved and collected angels.
A Celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 30, 2026, in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, 1499 North Broadway with Reverend Rodney Cooper and Chaplain Suzi Fischer officiating.
Family will receive friends on Monday 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
