Fearon outshines competition in Swine Showmanship

GREENVILLE- Facing some stiff competition in the swine barn Sunday, Arcanum senior Madelyn Fearon, stood tall as she took top honors in Swine Showmanship.

“This is bittersweet,” said Fearon. “With our fair starting so late, this will probably be my last fair. Next year, I’ll be in school so I wanted to go out with a good one. This means so much to me. Instead of going out with my friends sometimes, I’m working in the barn. I don’t have a job, this is my job. I’m in the barn five or six hours a day so I keep busy.”

Not only does Fearon show at the county fair, she also takes the show on the road by showing at the state fair as well.

“If it weren’t for my parents (Michael and Rachel) I wouldn’t be doing these things.  My dad helps me a lot and without him, I probably wouldn’t be here.”

It was just a year ago, Fearon placed first in in the swine competition and had the grand champion. Now she’s looking to make it two in a row.

Fearon, a 4.3 student, would like to continue playing basketball at the next level and would like to attend Indiana Wesleyan or Mount Vernon Nazarene majoring in early childhood education.
