DCCA brings Revolutionary Big Band Sound to Memorial Hall

Darke County Center for the Arts will open its 2021-2022 Artists Series by presenting the Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience on Saturday, October 2 at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville. “We are excited to finally bring this exciting ensemble to our community; many people tuned in last year when we presented the group’s virtual Christmas show that was necessitated by limitations on group gatherings due to the pandemic, and are eager to see this excellent high-energy crooner and his band live and in person.” said DCCA Artistic Director David Warner. The show starts at 8 p.m.

According to Mr. Warner, Shaun Johnson, an Emmy-winning singer/songwriter, began his career with the nationally known vocal group Tonic Sol-fa, which has sold nearly two million albums and been featured in Newsweek as well as on the Today show. His band includes some of the best instrumentalists and arrangers in the Midwest who work to give their music a unique twist, performing songs ranging from standards to the “Spiderman Theme” to increasingly popular originals. The group’s very first studio recording, Capitol, garnered a top five debut on the Billboard charts in July, 2019; their latest album Made for Her features mostly original songs penned by Shaun Johnson in honor of the women in his life, including his sister, his wife, and his young daughters.

The concert by Shaun Johnson and the Big Band Experience is sponsored by Park National Bank. The Ohio Arts Council helps fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. DCCA membership contributions also help support this show. Additionally, DCCA receives funding from the Ketrow Foundation, Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund, Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial, Inc., and the John R. and Miriam H. Knick Fund of Darke County Foundation.

Tickets for Shaun Johnson and the Big Band Experience are $30 for adults and $15 for students, and can be purchased on DCCA’s Website www.DarkeCountyArts.org, or at the DCCA office located on the third floor of Greenville Public Library. Tickets for DCCA’s entire 2021-2022 Re: Vision season are also still available; for more information, call DCCA at 937-547-0908.
