Janet (Berger) Pitsenbarger, age 89, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born on December 31, 1935, in Versailles, Ohio, to the late Eugene and Ruth (Harmon) Lehman.
She married Floyd Pitsenbarger on April 24, 1954, and they had six children.
Janet is survived by her son, Jeff and Linda Pitsenbarger of Versailles; daughters, Polly Jo of Fort Worth, TX, Julie and the late Rod Boring of Versailles, Mindy and Brian Smith of Noblesville, Indiana, Patti and Clay Miller of Shelby Township, Michigan, and Peggi and Mark Richard of Versailles. Janet was preceded in death by her husband Floyd, 7 brothers, Hubert Berger, Bernard Berger Francis Berger, Lucian Berger, Joseph Berger, Edward Berger & Robert Berger and 5 sisters June Parin, Lucille Bruns, Evelyn Loxley, Marybell Rice, Dorothey Jean Martino, and Grandson Zac Richard.
Janet was very proud of her family and her 20 grandchildren, Justin, Greta, Andy, Alex, Mark, Kami, Ashly, Kyle, Zac, Kara, Bailey, Jon, Roxanne, Maddison, Emily, Dominic, Damien, McKinzie, Cameron, and Noah and 38 great-grandchildren.
Janet graduated from Versailles High School in 1953. During her high school she was a cheerleader all 4 years & homecoming queen her senior year.
She was employed by Elson’s Grocery from 1950-1953 after school & on weekends. She worked at Monarch Machine Tool in Sidney as a filing clerk from Sept 1953-August 1954. She sold Avon from 1962-1972 and then worked as a teacher’s aide from 1972-1998. After retirement she worked part time for Boring & Associates CPA from 1999-2013.
Janet was a member of St Denis Catholic Church.
Janet enjoyed living in Versailles and attending all the local sports events. She loved guiding Versailles historical tours for the third graders for many years. She was known by all the students & many in town as Grandma Pits. She loved to travel and spending time with her Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She was great with do-it-yourself creations on a dime. She was Pinterest before Pinterest existed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, September 8th, 2025, at St Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, OH, with Rev. Fr. Ned Brown celebrant. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Versailles. Visitations for family and friends will be from 4-7:00 pm on Sunday, September 7th, 2025. And Monday from 9-10 AM at Balley Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the Versailles Athletic Booster or Heartland Hospice of Shelby County.
