Norbert F. Lachat, age 91, of Russia, Ohio, passed away at 12:40 am Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Heritage in Minster.
Norbert was born on April 20, 1935, in Darke County to the late Chelcie J. & Nora (Bulcher) Lachat. Norbert is also preceded in death by his son, Daniel J. Lachat; granddaughter, Nicole M. Lachat; and 8 siblings and their spouses.
Norbert is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Rose E. (Monnin) Lachat whom he married December 28, 1957; children, Chris & Barbara Lachat of Greenville, daughter-in-law, Angela Lachat of Russia, Renee & Philip Stickel of Russia, and Michelle & Ted Poeppelman of Anna; 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren with 1 on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Norbert served in the U.S. Army. Norbert was a brick mason for over 20 years and worked 7 years at Corning Glass retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Remy Catholic Church in Russia. Norbert enjoyed farming and helping his son-in-law, Ted, farm for over 21 years. Norbert built 7 homes including homes for 3 of his children. He was very generous to his children and grandchildren. Norbert enjoyed traveling, he has been to all the states except Alaska. He also enjoyed playing pinochle and euchre. Norbert was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and never had a problem making new friends. His final years were filled with joy and friendship.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at St. Remy Catholic Church in Russia with Rev. Fr. James Reutter celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Remy Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm and Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.
