Clarence “Fred” Ponchot, age 79, of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Versailles Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
He was born on December 19, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late David and Viola (Rowin) Ponchot.
In addition to his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his brother, James Ponchot.
Fred is survived by his loving family: his wife, Kimberly (Capstick) Ponchot, whom he married on April 9, 1983; his children, Sherri (John) Kiser of Greenville, Michael (Jeanie O’Brian) Ponchot of Columbus, Michelle (Kurt) Baker of Greenville, and Sarah Vida of Columbus; his grandchildren, Ashley (Christopher) Francis of Greenville, Morgan (Nick) Thomas of Erie, Pennsylvania, Gabriel Stevens of Greenville, Noah (Shyanne Gibboney) Stevens of Greenville, and Alyssa (Anekah Arndt) Vida of Columbus; his great-grandchildren, Carsen Francis, and Julien Francis; his brother, David Ponchot of Tampa, Florida; and his sister-in-law, Mary Ponchot of Zephyr Hills, Florida.
Fred worked for FRAM for 25 years until retiring in 2003. An avid golfer and bowler, he spent countless days on the golf course or at the bowling alley, enjoying the sports he loved. Fred had a deep love for God and his family, and they were always the center of his life. Alongside his wife, he attended Reverent Church in Greenville.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Janie Detling and Pastor Sylvia McKibben officiating.
Guests may visit with Fred’s family from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
In Fred’s memory, contributions may be made to the Darke County Animal Shelter.
