Richard L. Hoover, age 84 of Ithaca, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana. Richard was born on December 26, 1941, the son of the late John and Laura (Kreitzer) Hoover.
In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his siblings, Hazel Yeomans, Earl Hoover, John J. Hoover, Robert Hoover and Marie Stump.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma (Smith) Hoover, whom he married on March 24, 1962; our children, Kathy and Steve Smith and Lori and Bob Stover; our grandchildren, Erica and Sean Livingston, Amanda and David Barger, Tyler Smith and Andrew Stover; our great grandchildren, Sofia Smith, Jayden Livingston, Alex Smith, Katie Barger, Madison Smith, David Barger II, Evelyn Barger and Dalton Stover; his siblings, Glenna (Robert) Bruner, Mary Ray and Barbara Rice as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was a member of the Family of God Ministries in Arcanum, Ohio where he served faithfully on the Board of Trustees and as Head Usher. Richard worked for General Motors for 30 years and served on the Village Council of Ithaca for 40 years. His hobbies included woodworking, watching NASCAR, and caring for his garden and flowers as well as keeping his yard beautiful with his beloved John Deere tractor.
There will be a Celebration of Richard’s life on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville, with Pastor Joe Lemaster officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ithaca Cemetery, Ithaca, Ohio.
Family will receive friends on Sunday. August 2, 2026, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to Family of God Ministries in Arcanum.
