July 7, 1935 – August 15, 2026
Shirley Teresa (Cook) Unger, age 91, formerly of Greenville, went to be with our Lord on August 15, 2026. She was born to the late George and Doris Cook on July 7, 1935, in Union City, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50-plus years, Kenneth G. Unger. She fulfilled her dream when she became a Registered Nurse in 1987. She was working at Good Samaritan Hospital when she retired from there and became a Home Health Nurse, which she truly loved, until she knew it was time to retire.
Later in life, she loved to sing karaoke and had a beautiful voice. She went to Nashville with her group of friends to sing, including her dear friend, Don Pack, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children; Dwight Unger, Bonnie (Alan) Joseph, Connie Kniesly (Marvin Schilling), and Rick Unger (Debra Miller); her grandchildren, Bill (Krista) Unger, Jason (Sara) New, Lance Joseph, Shelly Siats, Mike Kniesly Jr., (Christian Taylor), Kenny Unger, Allison (Phillip) McGuffie; her great grandchildren, Lucas, Lillee, Molly, Phil Jr., Avery, Mac, Huxley, Victoria, and Penelope; her brother, Mike Cook; her sister, Cindy (Wayne) Price; and also brothers in law, Gary (Jean) Unger, Terry (Merry) Unger, and Bud Bruchey; and many nieces, nephews, and very special friend, Don Yagle.
She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Doreen Bleichner, Janice Cook, Vivian Bruchey, and Phyllis Conner.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Heartland Hospice, St. Catherine’s Manor, and Carriage Court, all of Washington Court House, for the excellent care each provided.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 22, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials in Shirley’s name may be sent to Heartland Hospice 220 E.
