Larry T. Higgins

Larry T. Higgins, 74, of Kettering, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Kettering Health in Dayton.

He was born on October 10, 1947, in Whitwell, Tennessee, to the late Amos and Lillie (Shrum) Higgins.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sisters-in-law, Lois Higgins and Sharon Higgins.

Larry attended Greenville High School. He then joined the United States Army, where he served honorably as a member of the Military Police. He served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 and in Germany from 1975-1977. Later in life, Larry returned to college where he earned his Associate, Bachelor, and Master degrees focused in hospitality management. He worked for many years as an operation manager for various hotels. Larry also worked for the State of Ohio and the VA Medical Center in Dayton as a veteran counselor.

Larry was a member of the Kettering American Legion and enjoyed playing golf in his early years. In fact, he spent several years as a Golf Pro Professional. In his free time, Larry loved cooking and entertaining for his family and friends.

Larry is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Grim) Higgins; his sons, James Higgins of Kettering, and Greg (Anita) Higgins of Louisville, Kentucky; his granddaughters, Tiffany and Raegan Higgins; his brothers, Harold Higgins of Greenville, Ohio, Kenny Higgins of Somerset, Kentucky, and Wiley (Jenny) Higgins of Union City, Indiana; his sister-in-law, Pam (Grim) Cooper of Greenville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 3, 2022, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Sam Shilot officiating. Burial, with full military honors provided by the Greenville Honor Guard, will follow in Greenville Union Cemetery.

Guest may visit with Larry’s family on Friday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
