Darke County Detective injured during unintentional self-inflicted gunshot

Darke County Detective Sergeant Chris Clark suffered a self-inflicted injury to his hand with his own duty weapon while disassembling his handgun for cleaning purposes. Detective Sergeant Clark had finished his annual firearms qualifications on the afternoon of Thursday May 26, 2022 when he discharged his weapon in the Investigations Building of the Darke County Sheriff’s Office. The projectile passed through the hand of Det. Sgt. Clark and then into an exterior block wall where it was stopped by the wall. No other people were injured by the gunshot. 

Sheriff’s Office employees assisted Det. Sgt. Clark by providing first aid and Greenville Township Rescue responded and transported him to Wayne Healthcare.  Det. Sgt. Clark was treated and released from the hospital.  He is currently on limited duty due to the injury.  An administrative investigation is currently underway and any violations of policy and procedure will be addressed appropriately.  Det. Sgt. Chris Clark is a twenty year employee of the Sheriff’s Office with no prior incidents like this in the past.
