Of course, there have been some other topics, but the first Board meeting after the fair naturally was a lot about the review.
Beth Martin, the junior fair director, brought up that there are a few issues, particularly regarding entries after the entries have been closed, that need to be addressed.
But that didn’t spoil the overall picture!
Director Dudley Lipps shared that he received a lot of positive feedback. Also, a family was mentioned, who was very thankful that there was a wheel chair available for one of their family members (provided by Medicine & More)
The gate receipts didn’t hit the 2019 numbers but were up more than 50K compared to 2021, totaling $475,955.
Also, Thomas Shaw, Board Treasurer, said that all the events drew big crowds and all the events (including the concerts) either made a profit or at least broke even!
Director of Darke County Solid Waste Krista Fourman reported about the recycling efforts at the fair: 6.36 tons of waste were recycled, compared to 5.36 tons in 2021 and only 0.69 tons in 2020, but in 2020 there was only a Junior Fair because of Covid.
The board was also talking about the next fair, particularly about the events. Thomas Shaw and his committee received the approval (and a budget) to start the planning with Variety Attractions in regard to next year’s events. Shaw pointed out that Variety Attractions did a great job in the past and got great artists under contract to perform at the fair.
The fair board will have a special meeting with the speed department regarding harness racing on Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Next regular meeting of the Fair Board will be on October 5th at 7:30PM in the fair office.
