A Remarkable Encounter: The Centenarian Man and the Centenarian Car
The Farmpower of the Past event writes its own stories. The event brought together Kenny Midlam from Arcanum, a (for another month) 100-year-old man, and Darrell Biddlestone’s Ford Model T Coupe, a vintage automobile that had gracefully traversed a hundred years, serving as a testament to the marvels of engineering and the passage of time.
Kenny Midlam had witnessed the world transform from horse-drawn carriages to space exploration. Born in 1922, his life spanned a remarkable era of scientific advancements, social progress, and historical milestones.
The 100-year-old car is an exceptional relic from the automotive past. In its heyday, it had traversed the dusty roads, witnessed the birth of jazz music, and carried its passengers through the roaring twenties.
It’s not the first time that Kenny and Darrell’s Ford Model A met. They had an encounter a year ago at the same place. Darrell gave Kenny a ride in his other vintage Ford, a 1915 model T. A ride for the then 99 year old Kenny in the then 99 year old Ford Model A would have been more appropriate, but it’s not that easy to enter the Model A Coupe for a 99 years old person, so, Kenny ended up with a ride in the 1915 Ford Model T. Anyways – it’s safe to say that Kenny most likely had a lot of memories with either one of these vintage cars.
The extraordinary meeting between Kenny Midlam and the vintage Ford Model A represented the confluence of history, resilience, and shared human experiences. It emphasized the enduring spirit of both man and machine, and the significance of preserving our collective heritage.
