This is the month we spend special attention to and pause to thank our mothers. It’s good to have days to honor those who do so much for us. We are often busy with other activities; we forget their contributions to the family.
Pearl Buck described mothers this way: “Some are kissing mothers and some are scolding mothers, but it is love just the same, and most mothers kiss and scold together.”
Parents have certainly kept busy this year—with all the changing events in schooling, sports and health needs due to the COVID 19 virus. They try to keep up with the latest recommendations for mask wearing, vaccination news, church and school times, permissible attendance quotas and seating.
Some mothers if they are still able to work are swamped attempting to find sitters for minor children and time to help school-age children keep up with their studies.
It has been a difficult year for all of them. Some work in health areas; they have been the ones keeping the hospitals, ER’s and doctor offices open and available to the public. They have been giving vaccinations. We applaud them all.
Being a mother is an important and special gift to the world. At times, many of them arrive home, collapse into a chair and think, “This is crazy! It’s as if I’m walking on a tightrope!” My verse below may reflect how they feel:
BALANCING ACT
When you’re a working wife
Who leads a busy life
With family and career,
You may believe it’s clear
That you can have it all.
You might face a pitfall
Which stalls your upward climb.
You still can have it all
Though not at the same time.
Mothers, single moms, enjoy your day! Your family members may not always say it but you are doing many things to make them proud. We are all cheering for you to accomplish your goals in life. You are traversing that tightrope well and becoming an expert at balancing on it. You are a hard act to follow—love to you all!
