The public is invited to attend a free printmaking demonstration at the Anna Bier Art Gallery on November 16th from 11:00 am -12:00 pm.
Eva Yarger, printmaker from Van Wert, OH will lead the demonstration to kick off her exhibit “Cutting Edges” that is on display in the Anna Bier Gallery from Nov. 16 – Dec 13. The exhibit will feature images of her life in rural northwest Ohio as well as some items familiar to the Greenville area.
Printmaking is a type of fine art not to be confused with digital copies. Linocut printmaking is a relief printing technique that involves carving a design into a block of linoleum and then pressing it onto paper or fabric using ink. Linocut printmaking is similar to woodcut, but linoleum is softer and doesn’t have grain so linocuts can produce a greater variety of effects. The areas that are carved away are blank, and the raised surfaces create a reverse image on the paper. It is an art form almost more aligned with carving than drawing.
Yarger strives to create art that showcases the beauty in the mundane with the effects of light and shadow on the practical and mechanical parts of the world.
An artist’s reception will also take place at 5:30 pm on November 16 to meet the artist and talk more about her work. Yarger’s work will be available for purchase during this time.
Yarger attended The Ohio State University where she earned a B.A. in Political Science as well as Arizona State University for her J.D. She currently practices law in Van Wert but has always had an intense interest in art. Yarger also serves on the board of directors for the Wassenberg Art Center and the Van Wert Foundation. Her work has been exhibited at the Toledo Federation of Art Societies, Art Space Lima, the Mansfield Art Center, and the Dayton Society of Artists.
The Anna Bier Gallery is located on the second floor of St. Clair Memorial Hall at 215 W. 4th Street, Greenville, Ohio. Guests attending the demonstration should use the handicap entrance on the side of the building.
