Anna Marie Schmitz age 94, of Versailles passed away at 4:55 am Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at EverHeart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.
Anna was born December 26, 1929, in Russia, Ohio, to the late Otto E. & Magdalene (Barhorst) Grilliot. Anne was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Schmitz on December 19, 1995, whom she married September 15, 1951; brothers, Cyril, Percy, Marcus and Delbert Grilliot; and sisters, Delores Siegrist and Mary Lou Monnin.
Anna is survived by her children, Linda & Greg Nickell of Middletown, David & Cris Schmitz of Versailles, Mark & Rose Schmitz of Versailles, Vickie & Dennis Mestemaker of Versailles, Paula Schmitz of Versailles and Krista & David Jones of Versailles; grandchildren, Michelle Schmitz, Matthew Nickell, Bart Schmitz, Rachel Hilton, Meghan Lauf, Katie Heitkamp, Zac Schmitz, Drew Schmitz, Ava Brandewie, Kyle Jones, Troy Jones and Ashley Jones; step grandchildren, Josh Schmitmeyer, Jessi O’Neal and Angie Lucas; 17 great grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren; brother & sister-in-law, Tony & Marita Grilliot of Celina; sisters, Elaine Berger of Versailles and Henrietta Winner of Osgood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Anna formerly worked at Poultry Producers in Versailles for 8 years and cooked at Creekside in Versailles for 15 years. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and the Versailles American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Anna was the first woman to become President of the Versailles Athletic Boosters. She was an avid Tigers Sports Fan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, October 19, 2024, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Matt Feist celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.
