ANSONIA-During the season, the Ansonia Tigers have had their backs against the wall more than once.
They had a tough game with Tri-Village but came out on top with a 34-28 victory over the Patriots in a game that went down to the wire.
In a game against Preble Shawnee, the Tigers pulled out a 24-13 victory to claim the WOAC title.
Friday the Tigers will face the defending state championship, Marion Local Flyers.
“These guys are the best in the state,” said Ansonia coach Adam George. “They have a tradition of winning there every year. The boys are working hard to get ready for these guys.”
It was just a week ago when the Flyers knocked out Tri-Village, 56-14, while the Tigers eliminated Catholic Central, 43-7.
“This isn’t going to be easy,” said George. They’ve been beating everyone in their path and we’re just another game on their schedule.”
Now that the days of the home field advantage is over, everyone will hit the road.
Friday night the Tigers and Flyers will meet at Lima Memorial Stadium with the kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
