ANSONIA- In front of a standing room only crowd, the Ansonia Tigers did exactly what they needed to do if they wanted a share of the WOAC title.
With timely offense stellar defense, Ansonia posted a 24-13 victory over Preble Shawnee Saturday night.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the way these kids played tonight,” said Tigers head coach Adam Hall. Moreover, it was a stellar night for Jacob Schmitmeyer.
The sophomore accounted for two touchdowns on the night while rushing for over 160 yards.
The Tigers trailed only once, 7-6, early in the second quarter.
Ansonia took the lead for good at the nine minute mark of frame on a yard romp by junior quarterback Layne Bowman, giving the Tigers a 12-7 lead. A lead they would never lose.
On defense, the Tigers would allow only one more score.
“What can I my defense. They kept them on their heels the whole game. This win was huge for us,” said Hall.
The Tigers will close out the regular season at MississinawaValley then prepare for post season play.
