NEW MADISON- After falling 25-21 in the opening set, Arcanum went back to playing textbook volleyball.
Down 1-0, the Lady Trojans roared back, dropping three straight losses on Tri-Village, 25-18. 25-18 and 25-14.
The victory insured the Trojans would hold a firm grasp on second place in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference, trailing only Mississinawa Valley.
Led by Katie Sharp in scoring, Arcanum coach Jaycee Holman was very pleased with her team.
“This was a ream effort tonight with the kills and our net play,” said Holman. “I think our middles done a great job shutting down their middle hitters.”
Showing some resilience, Arcanum owned the final three sets.
“We don’t always play our best when we go on the road and that first set kind of showed that,” Holman admitted. “I told the girls after that opening loss that they had to come out fighting and that’s what they did. I’m very proud of my girls. That first set was not typical for us, but we bounced back and played well.”
Coming out ready to get the job done, Tri-Village never found its mojo after the opening set victory, and it showed.
“I think we lost our energy,” said Patriots coach Taylor Rawlings. “We are a team that feeds off each other’s energy and we didn’t have that tonight. On the plus side, I think we were really scrappy and that’s something we’ve not seen a lot of this season.
Arcanum will host Mississinawa Valley Tuesday, looking for at least a share of the conference title.
