Backyards & Bonfires Holds 4th Annual Event

On July 20 Backyards & Bonfires celebrated its 4th annual event at the J&M Ranch, continuing its tradition of supporting wounded Military, Veterans, and First Responders. Held as a free event, it has become a cornerstone in the community, bringing together people from all walks of life for a day filled with camaraderie and support.

Attendees of the event, known for its blend of games, activities, dinner, live music, and a captivating bonfire, enjoyed a vibrant atmosphere where they could unwind and connect with each other, all while contributing to a noble cause.

This year’s Guest Speaker was Jeremy Scharlow, a Mahomet Illinois Police Department who was ambushed in the line of duty. This year’s recipient was Cody Cecil, a Clayton Police Officer who was shot in the line of duty while serving a warrant.

In the spirit of friendly competition, the cornhole tournament saw fierce but friendly rivalry, culminating in victory for Matt and his teammate.

Looking ahead, organizers encourage everyone to mark their calendars for next year’s event, scheduled for the Third Saturday in July (July 19, 2025). It promises to be another unforgettable day of unity, fun, and heartfelt support for our heroes.

Backyards & Bonfires continues to grow not just as an event but as a beacon of community spirit and support for those who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting others. Each year, it reaffirms its commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of wounded Military, Veterans, and First Responders, ensuring they receive the recognition and assistance they deserve.
