Barbara Jean (Smith) Lavy, age 88, of Greenville passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Village Green Health Campus in Greenville, Ohio.
Barbara was born July 28, 1936, in Bradford, Ohio to the late John Alvin & Dorothy Mae (Sótell) Smith. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur “Ray” Lavy; son-in-law, Michael Nisonger; brothers and sister – A.L. Smith, John Smith, Julie Protos; and brothers-in-law – Jack Lucas, Matthew Protos, Franklin Valentine, Richard Burch, Les Kemper; and sister-in-law Jane Smith; four nephews and one niece.
Barabara is survived by her children – Dixie and Chris Little of Roswell, GA; Dick and Pam Lavy of Greenville, OH; Betsy Nisonger (Michael deceased) of Versailles, OH; grandchildren – Seth (Calleigh) Nisonger, Ryan (Erin) Nisonger, Kyle (Alison) Nisonger, Ian (Kelly) Nisonger, Joshua (Danielle) Lavy, Jacob (Jessica) Lavy, Joseph (Alivia Setka) Little, Arthur (Meredith) Little, and Chelsa (Adolfo) Vega; as well as 15 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sister, Sharron Lucas of Dayton, OH; sisters-in-law – Mary Valentine of Gettysburg, OH, Della Burch of Greenville, OH, Evelyn Kemper of Celina, OH, Carol Smith of Winchester, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara was a homemaker. She was a member of Oakland Church of the Brethren, Lake Regions Quilt Club in Florida, and the Darke County Quilt Club. Many people were recipients of her sewn gifts and homemade meals and goodies.
The viewing and funeral services will be held at the Oakland Church of the Brethren, 8058 Horatio-Harris Creek, Bradford, OH on Wednesday, April 30th. The family will receive family and friends from 9:00 am – 11:00 am with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Harris Creek Cemetery, Bradford, OH. A luncheon at the church will follow the burial – all are invited. Pastor Bob Bitner will be officiating.
