Barbara Jean Shaw

Barbara “Barb” Jean Shaw, age 96, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

She was born on July 21, 1928, in Winchester, Indiana, to the late Wilbur and Lela (Byrum) Teagarden.

In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Shaw, whom she married on October 30, 1946 and passed away April 8, 1983; her daughter, Lela Shaw; her brother, Gary Teagarden; and her sister-in-law, Sue Teagarden.

Barb is survived by her children, Bruce Shaw of Greenville, Estel (Francy) Shaw of Greenville, Sue Shaw of Union City, Ohio, and Patti (Neil) McDivitt of Fountain City, Indiana; her 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; her siblings, Keith (Dee) Teagarden of Lynchburg, Virginia, Max (Pat) Teagarden, of Union City, Indiana, and Connie (Milton) Flowers Indianapolis, Indiana.

Barbara was a proud graduate of Jackson Township High School, class of 1946. Shortly after her graduation, she married the love of her life, Charles Shaw, on October 30, 1946, embarking on a beautiful journey filled with love and devotion. As a dedicated farm wife, Barbara worked tirelessly alongside her husband, nurturing not only the land but also a family rooted in love and faith.

Barbara made a lasting impact during her remarkable 37-year career at the Brethren Home in Greenville, where she served as a compassionate Certified Nursing Assistant. Her unwavering commitment to her work was a testament to her nurturing spirit and profound respect for life.

A devout Christian, Barbara was an esteemed member of the Hollansburg Christian Church. She actively participated in the Ladies Group and served as a past president, exemplifying her dedication to faith and community service. Her legacy extended to the youth of her community, as she joyfully contributed her time as a 4-H advisor for the Palestine Pals and the Darke County Jersey Club, guiding and inspiring many young minds.

Barbara’s culinary talents were renowned, with her delicious baked goods winning the admiration of many. She loved to enter her creations at the county fair each year, delighting in the joy her treats brought to others. In addition to baking, she was an avid crafter, dedicating countless hours to crocheting, knitting, and quilting cherished items for her family and friends.

Barbara enjoyed card games, especially euchre; she relished the company of friends and family gathered around the table. In her earlier years, she found joy in traveling and embarking on numerous bus trips, embracing the adventure of exploration. She was an active member of the Hollansburg American Legion Auxiliary and a former member of the Liberty Bells.

A celebration of Barb’s life will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus. Burial will follow in Lisbon Cemetery.

Guests may visit with her family on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
