Betty J. “Gigi” Lutz, 99, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
She was born in Pitsburg, Ohio, on August 4, 1922, to the late Charles and Nanny (Black) Thompson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Lutz, whom she married on December 13, 1939; her son-in-law, Larry Linder; her granddaughter-in-law, Terri Lutz; 3 sisters; and 4 brothers.
Betty lived a long, prosperous and fruitful life. She grew up during the Depression learning how to make the most of what you have. She lived in Pitsburg and attended Franklin Schools. She met and married Ralph Lutz, and they were devoted to each other for 50 years. They loved to dance and spent many weekends dancing the night away. Together, they moved to a farm and tended it for 50 years. They raised beans, corn, 50 crops of tobacco, chickens, ducks, geese, and sheep. She was a member of the Jaysville Methodist Church, but later in life became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was very active and belonged to many groups, such as Ladies Aid, Eagles, Women of the Moose, and the YMCA. She loved to play euchre and was notorious for making euchre loans.
Betty sewed every day and did alterations for many people. She passed that skill on to her daughter, granddaughters, and great granddaughters. Sewing was not her only talent, she was an award winning “hog caller” at the Preble County Pork Festival. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her chicken pot pie and pies of all kinds. She had a green thumb and cultivated such beautiful flower gardens. She loved to drive her, always polished, black Chrysler Sebring convertible until just a couple years ago. Betty had an outstanding sense of style and was always dressed to a “T”. She was and will always sparkle.
Betty is survived by her son, Jack L. (Janet) Lutz of Wayne Lakes, Ohio; her daughter, Shirley A. Linder of Greenville; her grandchildren, Julie (David) Lenosky of Bradenton, Florida, Jodi Regula of Plain City, Ohio, Jeff Lutz of Greenville, Amy (Larry) Addis of Greenville, and Monty Linder of Greenville; her great grandchildren, Carter and Natalie Regula, Blake, Alivia, and Evan Joe Addis; her sister-in-law, Wilma Thompson; as well as countless nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
