Betty Marie Waggoner, 87, of North Star, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Village Green Health Campus in Greenville, Ohio.
She was born on January 20, 1936, in New Weston, Ohio, to the late Charles and Alma (Rudolph) Strait.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded by her husband, John Duane Waggoner, whom she married on May 27, 1954, and who passed away on February 16, 2022; her grandson, Aaron Waggoner; her sons-in-law, Randall Swallow, Daniel Kender, and Dr. William Roberts; and her siblings, Maxine, Wayne, Clarence, Charles, Harold, and Timothy.
Betty was a graduate of Ansonia High School. Betty worked for Lamberts as seamstress until her retirement. Betty loved to go shopping, especially at Dollar General stores. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers, tending to her gardens and was an avid animal lover, especially horses. Betty enjoyed going fishing with John on the Wabash River. Betty was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and the St. Anne Sodality.
Betty is survived by her children, Denise (Jeffrey) Opperman of Lexington, Indiana, Mary Rochelle Kender of Ansonia, Ohio, Cathy (Michael) Sacher of Celina, Ohio, and Jackie Wagner-Roberts of Yellow Springs, Ohio; her grandchildren, Matthew (Christine) Opperman of Dayton, Ohio, Dr. Charles (Sara) Opperman of Waynesville, Ohio, Maria (Ashish) Verma of Monroe, Connecticut, Nicole (Joel) Mead of Versailles, Ohio, Amy (Tony) Goubeaux of Minster, Ohio, Lori Gengler of Celina, Mychael (Dylan) Arwood of Fairborn, Ohio, Julian (Naseem) Chappelle of Columbus, Ohio, and Griffin Roberts of Yellow Springs. Betty is also survived by 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 15 E. Star Road, North Star, Ohio. Burial will follow in Shooks Cemetery.
Betty’s family will be receiving guests on Thursday, from 9:00 AM until 10:15 AM at the church.
