Beulah Mae (Baker) Maurer, 99, passed away peacefully at home in Greenville, OH on Sunday, January 19, 2025. She was born and raised on the prairie in Alpha, Saskatchewan, Canada, on August 12, 1925, to Jacob and Pearle (Porter) Baker. Jacob had homesteaded with one of his brothers from OH to Canada in 1909. They moved back to Gettysburg, OH when Beulah was 12. She graduated from Gettysburg HS in 1943 and attended Manchester College in IN (now University) for one year. She was married to Floyd J. Maurer on January 12, 1946. She was a member of Oakland Church of the Brethren for the next 85 years. Her vocations and hobbies included being a homemaker, a seamstress, church choir member, rose and vegetable gardener, the Administrative Secretary to the CEO at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, a watercolor artist, an avid reader, a solver of various kinds of puzzles and Scrabble player. She enjoyed traveling to many parts of the US and Europe.
She is pre-deceased by her parents, her husband (2001) and siblings, Elmer (Pat) Baker and Echo (Virgil) Petry. She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law Deborah (Maurer) and Ken Steiner of Charlotte, NC and Rebecca Maurer of Gettysburg, OH; two sons and daughters-in-law Bradley and Gerri Maurer of Murrysville, PA and Gregory and Paula Maurer of Greenville. She is also survived by grandchildren Angela Smith, Eric Steiner (Jennifer), Dane Maurer, Jared Maurer (Molly), Joshua Maurer, Megan Coleman (Ryan), Rachel Maiga (Ibrahim) and David Maurer (Dih-Dih). She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her Celebration of Life is planned for 11:00am Saturday, January 25 at Oakland Church of the Brethren, 8058 Horatio-Harris Creek Road, Bradford, OH 45308, with Pastor Bob Bitner officiating. Private burial will precede the service in Gettysburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8pm Friday at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, 1499 N. Broadway, Greenville, OH 45331 and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Resident Aid Fund of the Brethren Retirement Community, 750 Chestnut St, Greenville, OH 45331.
