ANSONIA- The Bradford Railroaders remained perfect in WOAC play Tuesday (3-0) with a convincing 65-45 victory over Ansonia.
In what could be described as sloppy play at best, Bradford was able to do the one thing Ansonia couldn’t do.
Take advantage of turnovers.
“Conference wins are big,” said Bradford coach Alex Swabb.”I’m extremely proud of our effort tonight. The effort is where it starts and where it ends and it showed for all four quarters.”
Bradford jumped out to a commanding 20-11 after the opening eight minutes and looked to be in command at the break, leading 36-21.
Ansonia came out of the break like a ball of fire. It didn’t take long for the Tigers to let Bradford know they weren’t going to roll over.
Ansonia went on a run, cutting the lead to nine forcing Bradford to stop the action and talk things over.
After that, it was all about the Roaders.
Bradford got all of its boilers fired up and was well in command after three, 50-31.
Bradford controlled every aspect of the game but it was the dominance on the offensive and defensive glass that put a smile on the face of the Bradford coach.
“Rebounding has been something we have struggled with this year,” admitted Swabb. “It nice to see that as we move forward.”
Bradford put three players in double figures with junior Owen Canan leading the way with 18 while seniors Hudson Hill and Landen Willis had 17 and 12 in support.
Bradford, 4-2 overall will host Tri-County North Friday while Ansonia will look get its first conference win of the season at Twin Valley South.
