Nine young ladies from age 13 to age 16 participated in the finals of the Annie Oakley Shooting contest. Six didn’t make it to the finals.
At the end, Brooklyn Dillman, a 13 year old Arcanum eight grader became the youngest Miss Annie Oakley. She made her winning shot from the 105 feet mark, beating her strong competitors. The first runner-up, 15 years old Kiera Spencer from Ansonia missed both of her shots at the 105-feet mark.
The excited Dillman said: “The other girl in second place was really good.”
Second runner up was 14 years old Samantha Beyersdorff from Greenville, who hit the target from the 95-feet mark.
It was Brooklyn’s second attempt to become Miss Annie Oakley. Last year, she finished sixth. Dillman has been practicing for this contest for about 2 years.
JoEllen Melling, Annie Oakley Festival President, said that this was one of the largest number of young ladies, who were shooting for the title, in several years and she was impressed how poised and beautiful the girls were.
