Carol Lee Thwaits, 86, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Rest Haven in Greenville.
She was born on August 28, 1935, in Greenville, to the late Marguerite and Walter Holzapfel.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, James K. Thwaits, whom she married on July 18, 1955; her son, James Kenneth Thwaits; her daughter, Debra Lee Powell; and three grandchildren, Patrick Thomas Thwaits, William Michael Thwaits, and Brandon Powell.
Throughout her life Carol maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who, even now, are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten. Carol loved to spend winters in Florida along the beaches. She was an avid golfer for many years and belonged to the Garden Club in Greenville and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was the epitome of a wonderful grandmother who never forgot a birthday or a holiday for her grandchildren and great children. In her younger days, Carol was known to her friends by a nickname “Tody”. She was a tom-boy who could hit a baseball farther than most boys. She loved her children and supported them in all their activities no matter what they were. She always took time to make someone smile and could never turn down doing good for others. Carol Thwaits had the golden heart that touched so many lives and will be surely missed.
Carol is survived by her children, William Louis Thwaits of Laguna Hills, California, and John Robert Thwaits of Wayne Lakes, Ohio; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law, Kelly Thwaits of Englewood, Florida.
