Past weekend, the Darke County Fairgrounds welcomed the 60th Annual Darke County Home & Sports Expo. However, this year marked a notable departure from the past, as the event shifted its focus away from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and towards a not-for-profit group, supporting local nonprofit organizations dedicated to youth activities, groups, and transportation.
From Friday, April 12th to Sunday, April 14th, the fairgrounds buzzed with activity as attendees explored a wide array of exhibits and attractions. Opening its doors on Friday at 4:00 PM and continuing until 9:00 PM, the expo extended its hours on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM and concluded on Sunday with a final day from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
One of the highlights of the event was the diverse range of offerings available to visitors. From landscaping and home remodeling to outdoor sports, the expo catered to a variety of interests. Children, in particular, found delight in the Kids Fishing Pond, providing a hands-on experience that fostered a love for the outdoors.
Throughout the weekend, attendees were treated to a series of captivating performances and demonstrations. Saturday saw the grounds come alive with the artistry of Chainsaw Carving Demonstrations, providing spectators with a firsthand glimpse into the intricate craft of sculpting wood with precision and skill.
Another crowd favorite was the Performance Trick Dogs of Ohio, whose three shows on Saturday—held at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 5:00 PM—left audiences in awe. Meanwhile, Ansonia Lumber’s DIY Youth Birdhouse Build offered children the chance to unleash their creativity while learning valuable woodworking skills—a testament to the expo’s commitment to engaging youth in meaningful activities.
Sunday brought its own set of delights, including a performance by the dancers of the 5678 Dance Studio at 2:00 PM. Additionally, attendees were thrilled by a special appearance from none other than the Cincinnati Reds Mascots, “Mr. Redlegs” and “Gapper.” Although originally slated for Saturday, their appearance was rescheduled to Sunday, much to the delight of baseball fans young and old.
Throughout the weekend, raffle drawings added an extra element of excitement, offering attendees the chance to win prizes while supporting the expo’s mission of giving back to the community.
