Dale D. Hawkey, 96, of Arcanum, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at the Oakley Place in Greenville, Ohio.
He was born on September 26, 1925, in Brookville, Ohio, to the late Frank and Dora (Sluterbeck) Hawkey.
In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Jean B. (Bryson) Hawkey; and his siblings, Ralph Hawkey, Thelma Hawkey, Lloyd Hawkey, Raymond Hawkey, Garnett Haislip, and Freda Poe.
He graduated from Arcanum High School in 1943. After high school, Dale served his country as a staff sergeant in the United States Army. He was a lifelong farmer who found peace in country life. Dale enjoyed spending time with his family and attending their events and activities. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh. He loved eating popcorn, playing horseshoes and bowling. When he was younger, Dale was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. In his later years, Dale enjoyed playing golf on Tuesdays with his neighbors. He and his wife, Jean, were members of the Grace United Methodist Church in Ithaca for many years, where he served as a Trustee and will be remembered for his congregational singing. He was involved in the construction of the present building.
Dale is survived his children, Jill Fisher and her husband, Wayne, of Greenville, and Jerry Hawkey and his wife, JoAnn, of Greenville; his grandchildren, Isaac Fisher and his fiancé, Sarah Logan, of Fort Bragg California, Levi Fisher of Dayton, Kentucky, Ivy Cheeseman and her husband, Nathaniel, of Chiang Mai, Thailand, Mike Hawkey and his wife, Asazalia, of Palestine, Ohio, and Adrienne Sharp of Winterville, North Carolina; and his 9 great grandchildren.
A private celebration of Dale’s life will take place at the convenience of the family, with Pastor Marla Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Ithaca Cemetery.
The family has entrusted Tribute Funeral Homes with the final arrangements.
