David L. Black, age 70 of North Star, Ohio passed away at 7:51 PM Monday February 7, 2022 in the emergency room of Wayne HealthCare in Greenville. Dave was born March 6, 1951 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of the late Roger and Geraldine (Mangen) Black.
He was currently employed as a Machinist at Crown Equipment Company of New Bremen, a position he has held for the past 10 years. Prior to his employment at Crown, he had been employed for 25 years at Alcoa of Sidney.
Dave was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church of North Star and the Holy Name Society of the church. He also served as a volunteer with the North Star Fire Department, and was a member of the Fort Street Car Classics and the Board of the Ansonia Rescue Squad. He was previously a member of the North Star Town Council. He very much enjoyed fishing and camping at Cottonwood Lake Camp ground and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Theresa Black, grandson J.J. Hoffacker and brother Paul Eugene Black.
Dave is survived by his wife Marlene M. (Schlarman) Black of North Star. They were married March 3, 1973. He is also survived by his children Laurie (Tyler) Hoffacker of Pennville, Indiana, Ryan Black of North Star, Craig M. Black of Troy and Carrie L. Black of North Star; grandchildren Gabriella Hoffacker, Olivia Hoffacker, Jacob Hoffacker, Delaney Hoffacker and Maddox Black; aunt Nihla York of Greenville; in-laws Helen Schlarman of Ft. Recovery, Bob (Pauline) Schlarman of Wendelin, Marge Vehorn of St. Henry and Karen Wietholter of Versailles as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Friday February 11, 2022 in the St. Louis Catholic Church 15 East Star Road North Star, Ohio with Fathers David Howard and David Zink as concelebrants. Burial will follow in the St. Louis Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio and on Friday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM in the church. Prayers will be offered on Thursday at 3:30 PM in the funeral home.
