Darke County Center for the Arts proudly announces that “The Hit Men” will open the 2021-2022 season at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville on Saturday, September 11. This group featuring artists who performed on hit records made by legendary bands including Foreigner, Journey, Styx, and Cheap Trick was scheduled as part of DCCA’s 2019-2020 presentations, but was postponed/rescheduled/postponed/and rescheduled again and again due to restrictions made necessary due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are thrilled to finally be able to bring these outstanding musicians to the Memorial Hall stage, and know that our audience is eagerly anticipating hearing live and in-person the classic hits they know and love,” enthused DCCA Artistic Director David Warner. Showtime is 8 p.m.
After witnessing the success of Jersey Boys on Broadway, Lee Shapiro, a former member of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, gathered together some old bandmates and toured the country, performing the hits they’d helped create around the country to thousands of adoring fans. Now Shapiro serves as manager and creative director of The Hit Men, a group which has moved on to include top musicians who worked with the stars of classic rock. Band members Steve Murphy, Mike DiMeo, Mark Newman, Greg Smith, and Tommy Williams have worked with The Alan Parsons Project, 3 Dog Night, Tommy James and the Shondells, Deep Purple, Sam Moore (of Sam and Dave), Billy Joel, Alice Cooper, and Steely Dan, to name a few. “When these guys perform “Don’t Stop Believin’,” you know that they never stopped believing, and are moved to share that belief in the power of rock to move and entertain,” David Warner said.
“The Hit Men” concert is sponsored by Ted and Diana Abney and Rodney Oda. The Ohio Arts Council helps fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
