DCCA announces performance line up for annual Make Music Darke County

Darke County Center for the Arts announces performance line up for annual Make Music Darke County on Wednesday, June 21 and encourages everyone to join us for a day of FREE music by Darke County performers. “DCCA is delighted to be presenting local festivities celebrating music and the Summer Solstice while supporting local performers,” shared Andrea Jordan DCCA Executive Director.

All events are at YOLO park featuring a celebration of music and community with Katie G and Friends! 11 am- 1 pm. At noon we invite the community to join us and sing “We’re All In This Together” from High School Musical. “Please join us for a musical celebration of community, inclusion, and acceptance,” shared Gilpin” and how our amazing community is truly inclusive to all.” concluded Gilpin.

Evening performances begin at 5:30 pm with Joshua Freshour a singer songwriter who grew up in Greenville. “Doing things to try and help communities have opportunities for entertainment and growth is very important to me and what both myself and my partner really enjoy doing with our time! My performances are just me and an acoustic guitar telling stories and singing songs”, shared Freshour.

Followed by Zach Perry who as a hobby likes occasionally to make music. “I am married to Sierra Perry with two children Naomi and Arthur. Arthur was just born in June (this month), for 5 years I’ve been a registered environmental health specialist for the Darke County Health Department. Most of the music I create is hip hop and I write my own lyrics but sometimes it’s fun to work with producers, so I don’t always produce my own instrumentals”. shared Perry.

Performing at 6 pm is Dalton Hesson. With roots planted deep in Darke County, Hesson has been part of the local music scene as the lead guitarist of the band Mora & the Boys since 2019 and recently joined Northern Burnouts to play bass. Hesson will be presenting a solo acoustic show and taking elements of classic country artists like Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard and mixing them with modern artists like Tyler Childers and Zach Bryan. “If you enjoy country music, you won’t want to miss this!” shared Hesson.

Make Music Day, a music festival featuring free music being performed almost everywhere, started in France in 1982 where it has become a national holiday called the “Fete De La Musique”. Now over forty years later, the holiday is celebrated in more than 120 countries around the world. DCCA initiated our community’s participation in Make Music Day in 2021, with participants of all ages performing for appreciative audiences throughout the day.  “We have a diverse group of performers everyone can enjoy and a variety of times and locations to fit your schedule, be sure to come on out and support our local performing artists!” concluded Jordan.

Darke County Center for the Arts is a non-profit organization whose mission is to present and promote performing and fine arts encouraging cultural enrichment.
