Ready to discover the fascinating world of bees and become a confident beekeeper? Join us for an immersive six-week beekeeping workshop designed for aspiring and beginner beekeepers alike! Hosted by Merrie Lane Honey, in partnership with Darke County Parks, this course offers a blend of educational lectures, hands-on experiences, and practical tools to set you on the path to successful beekeeping.
Led by Dave Collins, an expert educator with 18 years of teaching experience, this workshop makes learning the art and science of beekeeping easy to follow and exciting to explore.
Participants will explore a variety of topics, including:
- Bee Behavior & Colony Structure: Understand how bees communicate, forage, and thrive within their colonies.
- Honey Production: Learn the science behind how bees produce honey and how to harvest it sustainably.
- Hive Maintenance: Equip yourself with essential skills to care for your bees year-round.
What’s Included:
- Six In-Person Lectures: Join our expert-led classroom sessions to delve into all aspects of beekeeping.
- Hands-On Lab Work*: (Optional) Experience the thrill of working in the apiary under the guidance of a seasoned beekeeper. (*Personal Protective Equipment required to participate.)
- Comprehensive Textbook: Each participant will receive a copy of The Backyard Beekeeper, 5th Edition by Kim Flottum.
- Bee Binder: Stay organized with a 3-ring binder for note-taking and supplementary course materials.
*Lab work dates will be scheduled based on weather conditions. The cost of the workshop is $150 for an individual and $250 for a couple.
