Don Mong to lead Unique Art Workshop

Greenville native Don Mong cannot go a day without creating something, and finds inspiration everywhere he looks. The artist, now a resident of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, will host a class where he will teach participants to create a work of art from a used dried teabag; this fun-filled event will be held at Beanz Buttercream Bakery and Eatery on Thursday, September 19 from 7 till 9 p.m. All materials will be provided for each participant to devise a one-of-a-kind Christmas card while enjoying food and drink. Class size is limited to 30 participants.

The artist assures prospective participants that anyone can create a finished product that will make them proud. “I will help participants through the entire process; if you can hold a pencil in your hand, you can do this,” Don said. The main purpose of “teabag art” is to recycle used items creating a one of a kind handmade holiday greeting card that cannot be purchased in any store.

In 2021, Don created a portfolio of watercolors featuring iconic local sites as a fund-raiser for Garst Museum in Greenville; that volume is also a tribute to his mother Phyllis, who passed away in April, 2020. Don will be returning to his home community once again for the September 20 installation of a mural design he is donating to Main Street Greenville’s Mural Committee featuring one of his watercolor images. Proceeds from this art workshop will also be donated to the Mural Committee for development of future murals throughout downtown Greenville.

Cost for participation in this unique event is $30, which includes Beanz treats, drinks and all materials; a cash bar will also be available. Reservations for the art workshop with Don Mong can be made at Beanz; the $30 donation is payableby cash or check only. Beanz is located at 180 East Third Street in Greenville.  For more information, contact Don at 401-465-2853 or call Mural Committee member Deb Shiverdecker at 937-417-7231.
