Dora Jane (Darland) Waymire peacefully met her Lord and Savior on June 14, 2021, at the age of 85. Born to George and Esther (Staight) Darland in New Madison, Ohio. She met the love of her life, James R. Waymire while attending school at New Madison High School where they later married October 15, 1954, and spent their entire life together. They raised their family in New Madison, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 61 years, James R. Waymire (d. 2015); daughter, Brenda Waymire (d. 1955); son, James “Jimmy” Waymire (d. 1986); and daughter-in-law, Kathi “Kat” Waymire (d. 2018).
She was the ninth child of thirteen children (7 boys and 6 girls) born to George and Esther a proud military family with George serving in the U.S. Calvary campaign against Pancho Villa on the U.S./Mexico border. Six of George’s seven sons served our country in the Navy during peacetime and numerous military conquest.
She is survived by her three children, Jill (David) Shives, Greenville, Jennifer (Chris) Paul, New Bremen and Jeffery Waymire New Madison; six grandchildren, Melissa (Daniel) Snyder, New Madison, Heather (Walter) Brown, Greenville, Richard “Clint” Shives, Greenville, Ashley (Dustin) Yount, Greenville, Dustin (Cora) Waymire, Greenville, Rachel Crist, Greenville; sister, Sue (Carol) Applegate, Urbana; brother-in-law, Michael Waymire, New Madison; and sister-in-law, Karen Darland, Zephyrhills, Florida. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren.
She lived a life full of days and had many days full of life. It’s not the dates on the stone but the dash between. She was a three-time cancer survivor with her courage and strength an inspiration to all around her. Dora and her husband were very active in the New Madison Fire Department with Dora serving many years as a “Fire Bell”. Dora was also a longtime member of the Castine Church, Castine. Dora was a member of the Fort Black Eastern Star Chapter 336, serving as a past worthy matron. She loved going to parades in the Shriners Jeepster. Dora Jane and Jimmy Dick were very active in all the Shriner parade events and Shriners Children’s Hospital Fund raising.
Dora had her own upholstery business and was very talented in upholstery, painting, doll making and numerous crafts. She loved being creative and giving her accomplishments to numerous family and friends.
Jimmy Dick and Dora Jane loved wintering in the Texas Rio Grande Valley, Mission, Texas from January thru March each year. Dora Jane loved getting dressed up every day to go out into the world and enjoy the new event she was to experience that day with meeting new and old friends, dining out and of course playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dora will be sorely missed by all, her smile, her generosity and adventure for life.
Family and friends are invited to exchange thoughts and memories on Friday evening, June 18, 2021, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Castine Church in Castine and Saturday, June 19, 2021, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM the family will be receiving friends and family with a celebration of Dora Jane’s life to follow at 10:30 AM with Pastor Andrew Costa officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Darke County in Dora Jane’s memory.
