Effie I. Myers, 87, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away during the early hours of Monday, May 16, 2022, at her home.
She was born on February 12, 1935, in Verona, Ohio, to the late Ildon and Elizabeth (Curtin) Mahaffy.
In addition to her parents, Effie was preceded in death by her husband, Forest Floyd Myers, whom she married on October 9, 1954; her siblings, Roland Mahaffy, Sharon (Paul) Johnson, Judy Mahaffy; and her sister-in-law, Betty Mahaffy.
Effie graduated in 1953 from Verona High School. Being raised on a farm, Effie developed a hard work ethic which she carried on throughout her life. She retired from Northmont Schools, where she worked in the cafeteria as a cashier for 17 years. Effie enjoyed traveling and taking family vacations in their RV. She cherished her church families and was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church in Greenville and was a previous member of Christian Tabernacle in Dayton. She spent 27 years teaching Sunday School at Christian Tabernacle. Effie and Forest spent several years assisting with Mobile Missionary Assistants Program all over the United States.
Effie is survived by her children, Robyn Whitaker and her husband, Jeff, of Greenville, Fawn Couch and her husband, David, of Piqua, Ohio, and Scott Myers and his wife, Mary, of Fairborn, Ohio; her grandchildren, Garrett Johnson and his wife, Allison, of Lawrence Kansas, Jordan Johnson and his wife, Jamie, of Walla Walla, Washington, Daren Johnson and his wife, Stephanie, of Wichita, Kansas, Kelly Calicoat of Kettering, Ohio, Andrew Johnson and his wife, Jenita, of Beavercreek, Ohio, Jacob Wright of Atlanta, Georgia, Anna Bryant and her husband, Kyle, of Piqua, Joshua Myers of Opp, Alabama, Sarah Mozingo and her husband, Donald, of Bellbrook, Ohio, and Caleb Myers and his wife, Echo, of Guernsey, Wyoming; and her 20 great grandchildren; her brother, William “Bill” Mahaffy of Arcanum, Ohio; and her sister-in-law, Ruth Mahaffy of Greenville.
A celebration of Effie’s life will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Trinity Wesleyan Church, 1400 E. Main St, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastors Drew Bush officiating.
Guests may visit with Effie’s family on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the start of the service at noon.
Effie will be laid to rest during a private graveside service at Royal Oaks Cemetery near Brookville at the convenience of the family.
