Eldora Speedway: Brandon Sheppard wins the Dirt Track World Championship

First things first: it was a crazy DTWC-event because of the weather.

The Thursday races were totally washed out and postponed to April 27, 2024.

For Friday, there was still hope until 3PM but then the decision was made to push these races to Saturday, with a very tight schedule with the “Friday” program (hot laps) starting at 1PM. But: although the track crew worked hard, the condition of the track was still not perfect and after a spectacular crash, the decision was made to cancel the remaining “Friday”-races as well as the Saturday program and push everything to Sunday. Safety first!

The track crew worked their magic and the weather supported them so at 3PM the Lucas Oil Hot Laps opened the Sunday schedule.

After the Lucas Oil Hot Laps, Steel Block A-Main Hot Laps, the Lucas Oil Heat Races and B-Features, the fans saw a great Steel Block A-Feature.

Cody Overton and KC Burdette swapped the lead a few times in the final two laps, but at the end Cody Overton crossed the finish line first and earned a $5,000 check.

Next on the schedule was the Jim Dunn Memorial Non-Quialifier, which was won by Jason Jameson.

And then, fans were more than compensated for the postponements: they saw a great Dirt Track World Championship race!

This was racing at its finest!

Eight different leaders during the 100 laps and the first three drivers, Brandon Sheppard, Hudson O’Neal and Devin Moran, crossed the finish line within a second (Hudson was just 0.084 seconds behind). Great fighting.

Brandon Sheppard won his 5th DTWC title and $100,000.
