Eldora Speedway’s 30th DLM Dream: A Review

First things first: there are rumors out there that Tony Stewart is selling Eldora Speedway. “Smoke” himself addressed these rumors prior to the start of the DLM Dream. “Eldora Speedway has not been sold and is not for sale, we plan on keeping it for a long time”, Tony said.

Eldora Speedway witnessed four nights of exhilarating dirt track action during the 30th edition of the Dirt Late Model Dream.

Despite a weathered-out start on Wednesday, June 5th, the subsequent evenings more than compensated for the setback, offering fans a spectacle to remember.

The event kicked off with a bang as Ricky Thornton Jr. seized victory on Thursday’s DLM Dream Night 1, claiming a $25,000 prize. Thornton’s triumph was not without drama, as Bobby Pierce’s commanding lead evaporated in a cloud of smoke, paving the way for Thornton’s ascent to the winner’s circle. Hudson O’Neal and Josh Rice came in second and third.

Friday’s proceedings saw Devin Moran finally etch his name in Eldora Speedway’s storied history. Devin had a perfect day. 23 years after his father Donnie Moran won the first Eldora Million, Devin won the first time a race for the Moran family since this big day. Second was Dale McDowell, third Brandon Sheppard.

The anticipation reached its peak on Saturday’s DLM Dream Night, with Jonathan Davenport emerging as the ultimate victor – his third DLM Dream victory, securing a grand prize of $100,030. Davenport’s dominance was undeniable, solidifying his status as one of dirt track racing’s elite. Second was Bobby Pierce, third Brandon Overton. The winners of Thursday and Friday, Ricky Thornton jr. and Devin Moran didn’t make the Top 5.

A terrifying flip Scott Bloomquist took in his heat race on Saturday sent shockwaves through the Eldora Speedway community. Thankfully, Bloomquist emerged unscathed and walked away OK. There were some more crashes (at all of them, the drivers walked away OK – fortunately), but Scott’s flip was the most terrifying.

As the curtains closed on the 30th DLM Dream, Eldora Speedway bore witness to a celebration of speed, skill, and sheer determination. From heart-stopping moments on the track to triumphant victories in the winner’s circle, each night offered a glimpse into the soul of dirt track racing. As fans and competitors alike reflect on the memories made, one thing remains certain – Eldora Speedway’s DLM Dream is not just a race; it’s an experience unlike any other.
