Erie C. Elson age 92, of Versailles and formerly of Ft. Recovery passed away at 2:30 pm Sunday, January 9, 2022, in the ER at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville.
Erie was born May 16, 1929, in Webster to the late Thomas & Mina (Cool) Elson. Erie was also preceded in death by his 1st wife, Mary (Sneed) Elson Phillips; 2nd wife, Betty (Arnett) Linn Elson; son-in-law, Arthur Francis; step daughter, Tama Brunswick; and brothers, Kenneth, Perry, Marion, Lawrence & John “Red” Elson.
Erie is survived by his children, Debbie Elson Francis of Versailles, Rickey Elson of Greenville and Judy (Darrell) Elson Coby of Greenville; grandchildren, Audrey Lutz, Mary Francis, Charlie Francis, Jack Martin and Ricky Martin; great-grandsons, Michael Lutz and Gavin Luz; step children, Tom (Clara) Linn of Wapakoneta, Karen (Dick) Bonvillion of Ft. Recovery, Diana Linn of Ft. Recovery, Kim Delgado of Kimmell, Indiana, David Linn of Ft. Recovery, Darlene (Pablo) Castaneda of Goshen, Indiana and Dennis (Patti) Linn of Portland, Indiana; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; brother, Russell Elson of Greenville; sister, Betty Hittle of Celina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Erie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1947 – 1952. He was a retired auto mechanic. Erie attended the Church of Nazarene in Ft. Recovery.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Don Smith officiating and full military honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. Burial will follow in Teegarden Cemetery, Ansonia. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard.
