Our dear beloved mother, Evelyn Ilene (Cottrell) Bowman, departed this life in the early morning hours of December 30, 2024 at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. She fell December 10, 2024, fracturing one vertebra in her back, causing much pain.
She was born in Darke County, Ohio to Charles and Effie (Bowman) Cottrell on November 15, 1933, making her life on earth just over 91 years.
She was married to Marvin Lee Bowman from Lima, Ohio on October 7, 1951. Dad passed away on January 28. 2006 after 55 years of marriage. They accepted Jesus Christ and were baptized May 1952, into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, at her passing she was a member of New Conference, Shiloh District.
To this marriage was born three children, Lonnie, married to Corinne Haney, Larry, married to Pam Angle, and Carol, married to Doug Fisher. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, Amy Bowman (Dan Landes), Chip Fisher (Heidi Boone), Dan Bowman & special friend (Katrina Popejoy), Jan Bowman (Roy Huffman), Trixie Fisher (Wade Fisher), Joel Bowman (Carrie Rumble), Laurel Bowman (Jesse Garber), Annie Bowman (Graydon Filbrun), Chet Fisher (Kayla Filbrun), of which all survive. 30 great-grandchildren also survive, as well as one great-great-grandson, whom she never had the opportunity to meet.
Dad and Mom enjoyed traveling to Israel, Switzerland, Florida and going camping. One of the highlights for the grandchildren was going camping with Grandma and Grandpa. Mom also loved to garden and had an egg route in Dayton, going door to door selling eggs and produce.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister Lois Schaurer and husband Ralph, brothers Lin Cottrell and Pete Cottrell, and a stillborn sister. Also deceased are Dad’s parents, Carl and Margaret (Metzger) Bowman, Dad’s siblings, Paul & Helen Layman, Glen & Anna Vermillion, Bob & Leah Doyle, Dick & Vera Mowery, Raymond Bowman, Ronald & Evelyn Bowman, Harold Bowman, Glen Wolf, Ralph & Dorothy Miller.
She is also survived by Carol (Hussey, Cottrell) Miller and Linda (Sink) Cottrell, Shirley (Hufford) Bowman, Howard & Joyce Bowman, Mary (Bowman) Wolf, Wilber & Bonnie (Layman) Bowman, Janice (Bowman) Bohnstedt, Eldon & Susie Bowman, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
We are grateful for the life she lived and her example of faithfulness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 3, at the Shiloh Old German Baptist Brethren Church, New Conference, 8340 Delisle-Fourman Rd., Arcanum. Burial will follow in Newcomer Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are in care of Moore Funeral Home, Covington.
